Public feedback sought on draft new City Plan

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is encouraging residents to have their say on Brisbane’s future by providing feedback on the draft new City Plan when formal consultation opens this month.

The Lord Mayor said community consultation was an important part of the planning process, which is why Council was doubling the required submission period.

“Everyone living and working in Brisbane has a role to play in steering the city’s growth and development, which is why we are providing a 60 business day notification period and hosting additional consultation sessions,” Cr Quirk said.

“So far more than 25,000 residents have gone online to familiarise themselves with the draft plan, with hundreds more taking advantage of the 33 ‘information kiosks’ and ‘Talk to a Planner’ sessions that have already taken place.”

Cr Quirk said residents had been given the opportunity to look at the draft City Plan since February this year, prior to the State Government’s first review.

He said as a result of community and Queensland Government feedback, the plan had been amended for formal consultation to include neighbourhood plans recently been adopted or in the final stages of development.

“We have updated the draft new City Plan to include all neighbourhood plan adopted since late 2012, with current versions of the draft Chermside Centre, Darra Oxley District, Pinkenba/Eagle Farm and Lower Oxley Creek South neighbourhood plans,” he said.

“This enables residents to clearly see the long-term plan for their area, and assures them that local planning controls developed in consultation with the community have been maintained.”

Formal consultation on the draft new City Plan will run from Monday, 6 May through to midnight on Tuesday, 30 July, with all feedback formally recorded and considered.

An additional 60 community consultation sessions will take place across the city between May and the end of July to give people another opportunity to speak face-to-face with Council officers about the draft plan, and find out how to make a submission.

A copy of the draft plan with interactive and easy-to-use mapping is available to view on Council’s website, with submissions able to be made online, via email or post.

Once all feedback has been taken into consideration, the draft plan will be revised accordingly and the draft plan will then be sent back to the Queensland Government for final review.
